Payments Transaction Status
Once you submit a payment, you will be able to check the progress of that payment using the Updates tab. It shows a step-by-step timeline of exactly where your payment is — from creation through to payee receipt.
How to open the Updates tab
- Go to Payments > Transactions (or Review & Authorise for pending payments).
- Click any transaction row. A drawer opens on the right.
- Select the Updates tab (next to Details).
You can close and reopen the drawer at any time — it always reflects the latest state of your payment.
Reading the timeline
The timeline uses three visual states:
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Green checkmark + timestamp | This step is complete. |
| Highlighted dot + description | This is the current step. |
| Greyed-out step | This step is still to come. |
Amounts, account details, and expected delivery dates appear inline as each step completes.
Payment steps explained
| Timeline step | What it means |
|---|---|
| Payment created | Your transaction has been created in the platform. |
| Waiting for authorisation | The payment needs approval before it can be processed. |
| Invoice requesting | We've sent you an email requesting supporting documentation. |
| Under review by us | Your payment has been submitted and our team is checking everything before it's processed. |
| Pending Transfer (PayID only) | We're waiting to receive and verify your PayID transfer. |
| We're charging your account | We're collecting funds from your nominated payment method. |
| [Amount] Received | We have your funds and are preparing to send them. |
| [Amount] sent to FX partner for conversion (international payments only) | We've sent your payment to SendFX, our foreign exchange partner, for currency conversion. |
| Payee should receive their payment by [date] | Your payment is on its way to your payee, with an estimated delivery date. |
International payments show both currencies
For FX payments, the timeline shows the AUD amount charged and the foreign currency amount expected to land (for example, 100.00 AUD charged, 69.69 USD sent to payee).
If something goes wrong
| Timeline step | What it means |
|---|---|
| Your payment was cancelled | The payment was cancelled before any funds were taken. |
| Your payment was rejected | The payment was declined further along the chain (for example, by your payee's bank). We'll email you with next steps. |
| Your payment failed | The payment did not go through. See how to retry a failed payment. |
| We're returning your funds | A refund is in progress for a payment that was already charged. |
| We've sent your funds back | The refund is complete. |
Common questions
Why does my payment still show "Processing" in the table?
The status chip in the transactions table is a summary label. Click into the payment and open the Updates tab to see exactly which step it's at and what happens next.
Why doesn't the timeline show an exact delivery date yet?
Until your payment is authorised, we can't calculate an exact date. Once authorised, the timeline will show a specific estimated delivery date.
My supplier says they haven't received the payment, but it shows as Sent. What should I do?
Open the Updates tab and check whether the final "Payee should receive their payment by [date]" step shows as complete with a timestamp. If it does, the funds have left pay.com.au and are on their way. If the payment was rejected, the status will update and you'll receive an email. Contact support if you need further help.
Does this change how long my payment takes?
No. This only changes what you can see. Processing times are unchanged.
