Before you can authorise payments, we need to verify your identity and your business. This isn't red tape for the sake of it — it's a legal requirement under Australia's Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) Act. It keeps the platform safe for everyone.
What we collect during onboarding
During the onboarding flow, you'll be asked to provide information about your business, including:
- The industry you operate in
- A description of the goods or services you provide
- Your website (if applicable)
- Your business revenue
- Your business address
- The types of payments you expect to make through pay.com.au
Documents required by business type
What we need to verify depends on how your business is structured.
Sole Trader
You'll need to provide:
- Personal ID (e.g. driver's licence or passport)
Australian Company
You may need to provide:
- Personal ID for all beneficial owners (UBOs)
- For any owner that is not an individual — the required documents for that business entity
Where possible, we pre-fill director and shareholder details from ASIC records to save you time.
Australian Trust
You'll need to provide:
- A signed and executed copy of the trust deed
- Personal ID for any trustee who is an individual
- For any trustee that is not an individual — the required documents for that business entity
Australian Partnership
You'll need to provide:
- A signed and executed copy of the partnership agreement
- Personal ID for any partner who is an individual
- For any partner that is not an individual — the required documents for that business entity
Privacy first. All information collected during verification is managed in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles and retained only as long as required by our regulatory obligations.
