We're required by Australian financial regulations to verify the identity of everyone who uses pay.com.au. How that works depends on your role on the account.
When you open an account
When opening an account, we use Incode — a leading identity verification provider — to confirm that the person opening the account is who they say they are. The process takes most people under 2 minutes.
You'll need one of the following:
- Australian driver's licence
- Australian passport
- Foreign passport with a valid Australian visa
The verification involves taking a photo of your ID document and a short selfie or liveness check. Incode compares the two to confirm the ID belongs to you.
Tips for a smooth verification
- Place your ID flat on a steady surface
- Hold the camera parallel to your face or ID — avoid angled shots
- Use even, natural lighting — avoid flash, glares, and shadows
- Make sure the photo is in focus
- Ensure any text on transparent sections of your ID is clearly readable
- Keep the background clear — nothing in the foreground or behind
When you're invited to an account
If you've been invited to manage someone else's account and your role allows you to authorise payments, we'll also need to verify your identity. You'll be prompted to provide details from one of the following:
- Australian driver's licence
- Australian passport
- Medicare card
- Foreign passport with a valid Australian visa
