Short answer: Yes. After 30 November 2026, the ATO won’t take your credit card directly. But you can still pay your tax on card through pay.com.au. You pay us by card. We pay the ATO by bank transfer or BPay on your behalf.
What the ATO is changing
From 1 December 2026, the ATO will no longer accept credit card payments. This applies to Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards.
- Still available direct with the ATO: bank transfer (EFT) and BPAY, through the ATO's Online services for business.
- Why it's happening: the change follows the RBA's review of card payments, which ends card surcharges from 1 October 2026. The ATO has said it won't pass credit card merchant fees on to the community.
