From 1 October 2026, new RBA rules ban credit card surcharges on consumer transactions. Here's what that means for pay.com.au customers.
Surcharging
We don't charge a surcharge at pay.com.au. You pay one simple, all-inclusive platform fee based on your tier and card, and that fee already covers use of our platform, which includes card acceptance. No hidden extras, no surcharge stacked on top.
So a surcharge ban won't change a thing for our platform fees. We're not expecting any impact at all.
Interchange fees and PayRewards
The interchange fee cap changes only apply to Visa and Mastercard consumer credit cards. PayRewards isn't funded by interchange revenue at all. Instead, it's funded by the fees you pay for your PayRewards package.
So no matter what happens with interchange caps, your ability to pay for and earn PayRewards Points isn't affected. You can keep earning on every payment through pay.com.au, regardless of what banks or issuers do with their own programs.
