Your card number is not the same as your licence number. The card number is a separate identifier printed on the physical card — its location varies by state and when your licence was issued.

Australian Capital Territory (ACT)
Front of card — printed vertically, on the left-hand side of the photo.
New South Wales (NSW)
Front of card — right-hand side, above the photo.
Northern Territory (NT)
- Issued before 10 Dec 2020: Back of card, bottom-left corner.
- Issued from 10 Dec 2020: Back of card, along the bottom edge.
Queensland (QLD)
- Issued before June 2019: Back of card, bottom-right corner.
- Issued from June 2019: Front of card, under your signature.
South Australia (SA)
Back of card — top-right corner.
Tasmania (TAS)
Back of card — top-right corner.
Victoria (VIC)
- Issued before November 2022: Back of card — small characters directly below your year of birth.
- Issued before November 2022 with a change of address sticker: The 4th line of the change of address sticker.
- Issued from November 2022: Front of card, top-right corner.
Western Australia (WA)
Back of card — right-hand side.
