Why was a transaction with my pre-paid Mastercard declined?

Your transaction may have been declined for one of the following reasons:

  1. Insufficient balance - The transaction amount is greater than the available balance on your card. You can check your card balance and transaction history anytime in The Card Network app.
  2. Expired gift card - Your gift card has a 36-month expiry, calculated from the date of issue. Expired gift cards cannot be extended. You can check your card expiry anytime in The Card Network app.
  3. Incorrect card details – Double-check that your card number, expiry date, and CVV are entered correctly.
  4. Merchant restrictions - Authorisations may be declined at certain merchants, such as gambling merchants or merchants who choose not to accept the Card. Gift cards are subject to individual merchant acceptance.
  5. Merchant terminal limitations - Transactions are subject to the merchant’s online terminal capabilities. Some terminals may not support prepaid gift cards.
  6. Network issues - The merchant’s connection to the Mastercard network may be temporarily unavailable.
