Do I need to add my own ATO payee?

We have already included the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as a bank account payee for you, but that doesn't mean you can't make your own.

If you prefer to use BPAY and would like to add the ATO as a BPAY payee, you are free to do so. This may be useful if you don't want to enter the Payment Reference Number (PRN) each time you make a payment to the ATO.

You may also have multiple billing arrangements with the ATO, and might prefer to set up multiple ATO payees with unique names, and the relevant PRN's pre-filled.

Regardless of which type of payee you prefer, both will allow you to successfully make payments to the ATO.
